Ourika Valley

The Ourika Valley cuts through the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains roughly 50 km south of Marrakech, following the Ourika River through a succession of Berber villages, terraced herb gardens, and walnut orchards. The valley is one of the most popular day trips from Marrakech, offering a complete contrast to the city — cool mountain air, rushing water, and a slow-paced rural life that has changed little over centuries.

The main draw is the village of Setti Fatma at the head of the valley, where a trail leads past seven waterfalls (cascades) accessible on foot with local guides. The walk takes around 2 hours return and involves some easy scrambling. Along the way, the valley's Berber residents sell organic argan oil, rose water, saffron, and dried herbs from their gardens. Traditional tagine restaurants line the river banks, many with terraces built over the water.
